Identity
Regina Virginum is a Society of Apostolic Life of pontifical right whose sisters take the evangelical counsels of chastity, poverty, and obedience through private vows. It was initially formed by a few young women who desired to live a fraternal life in common under the sign of charity, in order to better live their spirituality according to their own charism and purpose. The Society recognizes Monsignor João Scognamiglio Clá Dias as its founder, inspirer, and guide.
Its purpose is to collaborate in evangelization and catechesis for the “spreading of the Gospel throughout the world,” dedicating special effort to the sacralization of values in the temporal sphere, permeating them with the spirit of the Gospel, and in the spiritual sphere, striving for the sanctification of souls, seeking to lead them to perfection according to the counsel of Our Lord: “Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Mt 5:48).
The Society was born as an expression of the charism of the Heralds of the Gospel applied to the specificities of female religious life—but in total independence and autonomy, in terms of origin, government, and administration—acting in communion of methods and goals with the aforementioned Private Association of the Faithful.
Community Life
In the houses of apostolic activities of Regina Virginum priority is given to periods of meditation, mental prayer, spiritual reading, and the practice of silence, following the schedules established in the different units. Participation in Holy Mass, the Liturgy of the Hours, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the recitation of the complete Rosary occupy a primary place in the day. All of this is based in the awareness that the fruitfulness of apostolic action is based on spiritual life, and that community prayer achieves its full effectiveness in the fervent charity of each of the sisters.
