Saint Germanus of Auxerre, bishop (†448). He held the high office of provincial governor in the Roman Empire. He was a simple layman when elected bishop of Auxerre. He distributed his possessions to the poor, worked for the formation of clerics and monks, founded a monastery, and built two basilicas. Sent to England by Pope Saint Celestine I, he freed that country from the Pelagian heresy.
