Module presentation 1 - The Ten Commandments of the Decalogue

“I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse” (Deut 30:19).

In this first module of The Ten Commandments Explained, the essential principles of fundamental morality are presented and explored: the human act, conscience, freedom, virtuous acts, sinful acts, mortal and venial sin, natural law, virtues, and vices—all in the light of Sacred Scripture and the Magisterium of the Church.

With clarity and depth, this module provides the necessary foundations to understand the moral life and to make upright choices, guiding the soul along the path that leads to true life.

1. HOLINESS FROM MOSES TO JESUS

This lesson considers the call to holiness made through Moses in the Old Testament, renewed and perfected by Our Lord Jesus Christ in the fullness of time.  

2. THE LAW OF LOVE IS THE WAY TO HEAVEN

The Bible is a wellspring of light and blessings that satiates humanity. It is the source from which Old Testament history flows. Here we will form a synopsis of Sacred Scripture and discover how it was inspired and evolved.  

3. HUMAN FREEDOM IN THE LIGHT OF THE VALUE OF EACH HUMAN ACT

This is essential for understanding morality and the way we proceed. There is also the distinction between mortal and venial sin, which is of great importance for establishing serious parameters of behavior in the spirit of Our Lord Jesus Christ.  

4. NATURAL LAW: WHAT IS IT?

What is the relationship of Natural Law with conscience? This is the central question of this lesson, in which we will also explain what synderesis is and how conscience should be formed.  

5. A CATHOLIC'S MORAL LIFE IS IN FOLLOWING OR IMITATING CHRIST

That's why it's essential to know His Life, Passion, Death and Resurrection, as well as His luminous doctrine, summarized in some way in the Sermon on the Mount. In the light of the Beatitudes, we should try to convince ourselves of the need to lead a virtuous life, based on a serious spirituality, with the important roles of meditation and prayer.
