Feast of the Presentation of the Lord. Forty days after his birth, Mary and Joseph took Jesus to the Temple to offer him to God, as prescribed by the Mosaic law, and the elderly Simeon prophesied about him. Because the Purification of Our Lady is commemorated on this day, the feast is also called Candlemas.
