Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. When they conquered Jerusalem in 614, the pagan Persians seized the Holy Cross and took it to Ctesiphon, their capital. Thirteen years later, the Byzantine emperor Heraclius invaded Persia (Iran), recovered it, and solemnly brought it back to Jerusalem. Since then, the Church has celebrated the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.
