Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. On this date, in 1251, Our Lady appeared to Saint Simon Stock and gave him the Brown Scapular. Under this title, the Carmelites venerate the Mother of God, for it was on Mount Carmel that Elijah had the vision of the little cloud that represented her. On this mountain the Carmelite Order began, formed by hermits dedicated to contemplation; hence this title is also known as Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
