Memorial of Saint John Mary Vianney, priest (†1859 Ars-sur-Formans – France). Popularly known as the holy Curé of Ars. Although not intellectually brilliant, he proved an extraordinary parish priest and confessor. He spent years at the head of his parish in Ars. He remained in that town for 42 years because the population staunchly opposed his transfer. A great apostle of the sacrament of Reconciliation, he drew veritable crowds to the confessional. He is the patron saint of diocesan priests.
