Saint Hilary of Poitiers, bishop and Doctor of the Church (†367). Under Emperor Constantius, an adherent of the Arian heresy, he vigorously defended the doctrine defined at the Council of Nicaea on the Trinity and Christ's divinity, and was therefore banished to Phrygia for four years. He composed celebrated commentaries on the Psalms and the Gospel of Saint Matthew.
