Saint Bernard of Menthon, priest (†1081). He restored the Alpine pass of Mount Iovis, which later took the saint's name: the Great Saint Bernard Pass. On the same mountain he founded a famous monastery, and on the mountain later called Little Saint Bernard, a hostel for travelers. He also gave his name to the friendly breed of dog used for mountain rescue.
