In this second module of the course “The Path to Holiness” we will conclude our study of this topic with lectures on the necessity of temptation, how to control our sinful desires, the role of suffering in our lives and much more. These are all stepping stones for you to attain holiness.

But the most important ingredient of all is the virtue of confidence. Truly, we will only attain holiness if we place all our trust in God and His Holy Mother. After all, the one who is most interested in the salvation of our souls is God Himself.

Module lessons 2

1. The Importance of Temptation

Temptation is an important part of life. Everyone faces it, and being tempted is not a sin. It is only a sin if we give in. Jesus wished to be tempted in the desert to show us that temptation is part of being human. When we resist temptation, we grow stronger and make progress in the path to holiness.

2. Purity of Intention

Purity of intention means wanting only to please God. A pure intention gives life to our actions and makes them pleasing to God. The Lord does not ask us for great deeds, but simply that we offer what we do with a pure heart.

3. How to Control our Desires?

A Catholic should want to be holy and spend time on practices that help this desire grow. Our own desires are often weak and limited. That is why we need to admit our weakness, because the strength to serve God and the will to change the world come from Him, not from us.

4. Our Necessity to Pray

Prayer is essential for our salvation. Without it, we cannot stay in God’s grace or be saved. After baptism, we need to keep praying to reach heaven. Even though baptism removes our sins, we still face temptations, and we need prayer to overcome them.

5. How to Suffer Well?

The path to holiness is closely connected with suffering, which we call “redemptive suffering.” When we join our own struggles, big or small, with Jesus’ suffering on the cross, then our pain gains deep spiritual meaning and helps in the work of salvation.

6. Confidence

Confidence brings us straight to God’s throne, to the heart of our heavenly Father. A confident soul knows its own weakness and the weakness of all people. That is why it does not rely on itself or others, but puts all its hope in God.
