The universality of the Catholic Church was movingly manifested in early October 2026, during a journey of faith and welcome that strengthens the domestic Church on African soil.
Through visits of the Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, immigrant families from countries such as Burundi, Congo, and Burkina Faso, residing in Port Elizabeth, opened their homes and hearts to welcome the pilgrimage of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Gathered around the image, the faithful offered fervent prayers, demonstrating that devotion to Mary breaks down cultural barriers and unites God’s children under the same mantle of love and maternal protection anywhere in the world.
The Beauty of Springtime Faith
In Roodepoort, the visit was marked by a charm and simplicity that moved everyone: a boy of just five years old asked his mother to dress him as a priest so he could worthily receive the sacred image.
This spontaneous gesture of childhood, shaped by grace, reflects the purity of soul that draws Heaven’s blessings upon families.
This is a true manifestation of the beauty and intensity of the faith of spring, to which Dr. Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira referred in his beautiful Prayer of Restoration.
A simple and loving gesture that also reflects Jesus’ command to the apostles: “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these” (Mt 19:14)
