Fr. Steven Frederick Schmieder, EP, is a priest of the Clerical Society of Apostolic Life Virgo Flos Carmeli and a professor of Canon Law at the International House of Studies of the same Society, at the São Tomás de Aquino Theological Institute.

He holds a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas (Angelicum, Rome), as well as a degree in Humanities from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. His formation also includes specialized studies at the Apostolic Penitentiary and at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, particularly in matters related to the internal forum and canonical procedures.

Alongside his academic work, he has developed a consistent apostolic activity through the preaching of retreats and spiritual formation initiatives.

Biography

Fr. Steven Frederick Schmieder, EP, was born on February 20, 1961. In 1979, he joined the spiritual family that would later become the Heralds of the Gospel, beginning his path of formation and apostolic life.

He completed his philosophical and theological studies in São Paulo, later pursuing further academic formation in Humanities and Canon Law, culminating in his Licentiate from the Angelicum in Rome in 2010.

He was ordained a deacon in 2006 and a priest in 2007, and is a founding member both of the Heralds of the Gospel and of the Clerical Society Virgo Flos Carmeli.

Throughout his years of service, he has held several responsibilities within the institution. He served for over a decade as Administrative Consultant to the Irmandade de São Bento and carried out ecclesiastical duties in Rome, including serving as Vicar of the Church of San Benedetto in Piscinula and assistant to the Archpriest of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major.

He currently teaches Canon Law and collaborates in the formation of members of the Society, also serving as librarian at the theological institute. His apostolic work includes the preaching of retreats in different countries and contributions to courses and media initiatives focused on the spiritual life.
