    An enormous work of evangelization had to be carried out in order to form the immense collectivity of Catholic peoples that today we call Latin America. And it is remarkable to see that God did not raise up a great preacher for this task, but a woman invested with a mission of universal scope: St. Rose of Lima. A penitent and supplicant soul, she accomplished what was necessary, within the plan of the Communion of Saints, to save the America of her age. Her fame of holiness spread over the entire continent, generating countless miracles and conversions. St. Rose awakened around herself a spirit of penance and mortification that curbed the corruption of customs and created an unfavourable climate for evil to thrive.
